I recently had the honor to ask her 10 questions about her business, life, family and what makes her tick! Please join me in welcoming Joslyn to the family!
Where are you from?
I’m a lifetime Ohio resident. Born and raised in Tiffin. I moved to Columbus, OH 8 years ago after my sisters moved to go to OSU.
Do you have a family, if so, tell us a little bit about them?
I have my amazing husband, Carlos E Colon, who’s my partner in life and business. We own our Farmers Insurance Agency, CPR Contractors, and Coal Shine Management. We live in Upper Arlington with our 3 boys, Aiden, Octavious, and Ezra. I am one of 4 siblings, our father immigrated from El Salvador to Tiffin, OH where he met my awesome mom.
I have a brother in banking, my youngest sister is a CPA, and my oldest sister is the Director of Ops for a counseling center. I have a pretty large extended family. Most of them are here in Ohio and I also have some aunts and uncles in Florida.
What year was your company founded?
Our Farmers Agency was founded in 2016 but my husband has been involved in the insurance business for almost 10 years.
What was the inspiration behind it, and how did you go about making it happen?
We believe in the service to our community. We strongly believe that this is bigger than us and that our main goal in life should be to be this world a little better than we found. it. We provide an important service that everyone needs.
As I mentioned before, my husband was already doing insurance, but we wanted to have an agency with a household name, that we felt confident, had the client’s interest in mind. After all, insurance is only good when the company pays for your claims, right? Farmers has one of the highest ratings when it comes to paying out claims.
When the opportunity rose to buy our agency, it wasn’t a hard decision. We knew that it was the right move for us.
What are some of the most important services your company offers?
I think that insurance overall is important. You protect your assets and protect your loved ones. That being said; Life Insurance is the only policy you are guaranteed to ALWAYS use 100% of the time. It answers the question of what kind of legacy do you want to leave behind for your loved ones.
Funerals, final expenses, debt, probate, taxes, these things can quickly destroy a family’s financial situation. Life Insurance can protect your loved ones from all.
What is the key to making customers feel like they are more then customers, treating them as human beings and always being open to listen and help with their issues?
We believe in treating everyone with respect and dignity. Not only in business but also in our day to day lives. We listen to our clients and we only recommend products that fit their need. We aren’t going to oversell you to make an extra dollar. We want to give each client more in value than we take in payment.
How much do you enjoy being a part of the Iron Tiger MMA Family and what is your favorite part of coming to a live show?
We love it! My husband is a coach at Ronin Training Center and has been training and fighting for 27 years. We are passionate about competition and love being front row for all the fights.

Being a small business owner is a 24/7 job, what do you do in the very little spare time you have?
You are very correct, it is a 24/7 job. We don’t play the balance game, we have integrated our business into our lives. In our spare time I spend time with my family first and foremost.
My fitness is super important to me. I love to stay in shape and healthy for my family and my clients. Making time to workout at least 4-5 days per week it’s a huge priority.
What are the future goals you have for yourself, your company and expanding your brand overall?
Our goal is to be the #1 Farmers Agency in Columbus, OH. We want to separate ourselves from the pack by providing clients with a positive experience that exceeds expectations. We want to build long-term relationships rather than do transactions.
As for my family and I, we live a simple life. We want to continue expanding our reach in our community. Raising strong, loving, young men in our children. Continue to explore new ways to be better as people and business owners. And perhaps even open another location for Farmers Insurance.
