Pasta is one of my favorite quick and easy, comfort food meals, and I could never been on a diet that makes me give it up! Thankfully you can still eat pasta on the 21 Day Fix, as long as you measure it according to your yellow container guidelines!
What kind of pasta can I eat while on the 21 Day Fix?
- Gluten-free pasta made from corn, quinoa, brown rice (I also love Aldi brand) or chickpeas
- Whole wheat pasta where the first ingredient is whole grain/whole wheat
- Veggie based pasta, like cauliflower gnocchi, can be used sometimes, too, but you have to look at the rest of the ingredients to make sure they are approved
What does pasta count as on the 21 Day Fix?
Typically, all pastas count as a yellow on the 21 Day Fix. Even veggie based pasta is typically counted as yellow or part of a yellow, depending on ingredients. The only exception that I have found is Palmini Pasta, which is made from hearts of palm and zero added flour, so it’s strictly made from veggies and therefore a green!
Zoodles and other spiralized veggie noodles would also count as a green.

How to measure pasta for the 21 Day Fix-
I always calculate 21 Day Fix container counts of all of my recipes for you, but if you are making your own 21 Day Fix recipe and need to know how to count a certain shape of noodle, I have the breakdown for different shapes of pasta here! I personally cooked the pasta, weighed it, measured it (and ate it, lol) so I could write up this post for you. Food blogging definitely has it’s perks! Obviously all brands of pasta are slightly different, but this will give you an idea of how much dry pasta to use in a recipe.
If you want to be exact, it’s always best to cook your noodles separately and measure in your yellow container.

Egg Noodles for the 21 Day Fix:
Since Egg Noodles don’t expand much, measure cup for cup dry vs cooked
1/2 cup dry = 1 yellow cooked (1/2 cup)
1 cup dry = 2 yellows cooked (1 cup)
2 cups dry = 4 yellows cooked (2 cups)
3 cups dry = 6 yellows cooked (3 cups)
4 cups dry = 8 yellows cooked (4 cups)
Elbow Pasta for the 21 Day Fix:
rounded ⅓ cup dry = 1 yellow cooked (½ cup)
1 1/2 cups dry = 4 yellows cooked (2 cups)
2 1/4 cups dry = 6 yellows cooked (3 cups)
scant 3 cups dry = 8 yellows cooked (4 cups)
Ziti/Penne/Spiral Pasta for the 21 Day Fix:
rounded ⅓ cup dry = 1 yellow cooked (½ cup)
1 1/2 cups dry = 4 yellows cooked (2 cups)
2 1/4 cups dry = 6 yellows cooked (3 cups)
scant 3 cups dry = 8 yellows cooked (4 cups)
Spaghetti for the 21 Day Fix:
Spaghetti is tough to measure beforehand unless you want to break your pieces really tiny, but you can also measure in ounces. If you don’t have a food scale, 1.5 oz of spaghetti, which is 1 yellow cooked, is about the diameter of a penny.
40 (ish) pieces or 1.5 oz = 1 yellow cooked (1/2 cup)
6 oz = 4 yellows cooked (2 cups)
12 oz = 8 yellows (4 cups)
Lasagna for the 21 Day Fix:
2 Lasagna Noodles = 1 yellow cooked
8 Lasagna Noodles = 4 yellows cooked
12 Lasagna Noodles = 6 yellows cooked
16 Lasagna Noodles = 8 yellows cooked
